Vulcan inaugurates Romania’s first LNG and BioLNG filling station

Wednesday, November 13th is a historic day for heavy-duty transport in Romania.

Pecica, Romania – November 13, 2024 – Vulcan, a leader in the clean energy sector, is proud to announce the inauguration of the first service station in Romania capable of dispensing both Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and BioLNG (as well as CNG and BioCNG).

Located in Pecica, Arad County, the new station represents a crucial step towards a more sustainable energy future and a significant hub for Romania’s transportation sector.

A noteworthy opening ceremony was held in the presence of representatives from the Romanian Government, the Romanian Parliament, the Arad County Council, the Pecica Municipality, and the FPPG.

Among those present was the Ambassador of Italy to Romania, H.E. Alfredo Maria Durante Mangoni, who welcomed the investment by an Italian Group like Vulcan. He highlighted the shared position of Italy and Romania in supporting biofuels and emphasized how the creation of a bio-based supply chain in Romania is crucial for ensuring a sustainable and pragmatic decarbonization.

Costantino Amadei, CEO of Vulcangas Romania, declared:

With this investment, the Vulcan Group has strong confidence in Romania’s potential. As a major European logistics hub, it was only natural for the country to establish a network of LNG and Bio-LNG stations throughout its territory. Romania is also set to become a benchmark for biomethane in South-East Europe, thanks to the vast availability of agricultural feedstock that can be used to produce both gaseous and liquid biomethane.

We would like to thank Iveco, a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty vehicles powered by LNG and Bio-LNG, for their collaboration. Their vehicle lines, based on proven and cost-effective technologies, offer effective solutions for decarbonizing heavy-duty transport. In particular, the use of Bio-LNG significantly reduces CO₂ emissions, contributing to more sustainable transportation.

The opening of these service stations aligns with the entry into force of the ETS2 regulation, scheduled for 2025, which includes monitoring and reporting activities for emissions.

A greener future for transports

With the opening of the Pecica station, Vulcan reaffirms its commitment to promoting innovative and sustainable energy solutions, in line with Romania’s environmental goals.

LNG and Bio-LNG represent an ideal choice for long-haul transportation, helping to reduce air pollution and mitigate the effects of climate change.

In addition, the refueling infrastructure for these clean fuels is expanding rapidly. Supported by our VCARD system, we guarantee a seamless and efficient experience for transport operators.
