Torrile (PR), June 4, 2025 –
A day of sustainability and innovation featured Vulcan, Barilla and Nicolosi Trasporti in a joint event at the TAP service station in Torrile.
The meeting titled “TRANSPORTATION: CHALLENGES AND CHANGES IN ACT,” organized by Barilla, Nicolosi and Vulcan, turned the spotlight on the crucial issue of synergy in the decarbonization of the transportation sector, demonstrating how collaboration among Italian excellences can chart the path to a greener future.
Sustainability is no longer an option, but a compelling necessity. This is the clear vision guiding the long-term partnership between Barilla, Nicolosi Trasporti and Vulcan, who through this event reaffirmed the importance of integrating virtuous practices into key supply chain processes.
A development model that looks firmly at the future of the environment and food, where more sustainable logistics is the way forward.
A Concrete Example of Green Logistics
As of 2020, Barilla’s road shipments to Sicily and parts of northern Italy are entrusted to Nicolosi Trasporti. The Sicilian reality has made a strategic and far-sighted choice, investing in a fleet entirely powered by LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and Bio-GNL, a clean fuel obtained from agricultural waste.
With about 5,000 trips per year, Nicolosi Trasporti contributes significantly to the reduction of climate-changing emissions, making Barilla’s commitment to environmental sustainability tangible.
Vulcan’s Key Role: Transparency and Certification
In this virtuous ecosystem, Vulcan takes a central role.
With more than 50 years of experience in LNG distribution, Vulcan is a pioneer in establishing a certified Bio-GNL supply chain. It is because of its extensive infrastructure, which includes numerous fueling stations in Italy and Europe, and its state-of-the-art tracking system Vulcancard, that Barilla can rely on transparent data and official certifications.
In fact, this system allows Guarantee of Origin (GO) certificates issued by the GSE to be endorsed to the company, accurately and verifiably documenting the carbon footprint reduction of each transport.
After a convivial moment at the TAP service station in Torrile, the event continued at theAcademia Barilla in Parma, where a panel discussion focused on the opportunities and critical issues of sustainable transportation was held. The focus of the discussion: the evolution of the regulatory framework and the effects of the ecological transition on the entire logistics sector.
Keynote speakers included those of Andrea Bosi, key account manager at Vulcan; Aldo Randazzo, chief operating officer at Nicolosi Trasporti; and Gianluigi Mason, logistics Italy director at Barilla.
The meeting was a time for constructive discussion between companies and industry players, testifying to a shared commitment to an increasingly efficient, innovative and sustainable future of logistics.
